Receiving or buying a bouquet is always a pleasure, but it’s essential to adopt the best practices to preserve flowers in a vase for as long as possible.
Petite Fleur offers some effective tips to prolong the freshness of your cut flowers!
1. Prepare the flowers thoroughly before placing them in a vase
Upon receiving your bouquet, remove any leaves that may be soaking in water to prevent them from rotting. Cut the stems diagonally about 2 cm using pruning shears or a sharp knife. This cut allows for better water absorption and thus extends the life of your flowers.
2. Use clean, suitable water
To preserve a bouquet of flowers, fill a clean vase with fresh water. Add a floral preservative if available, or a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of white vinegar to slow the growth of bacteria.
Change the water every two days to keep your flowers healthy.
3. Place the vase in a suitable environment
Avoid exposing your bouquet to direct sunlight, drafts, or excessive heat. A cool, shady spot is ideal for keeping your flowers in a vase longer.
4. Maintain cut flowers regularly
Retrim the stems every two days to optimize water absorption and remove faded flowers to keep the bouquet fresh.
By following these tips, you can maintain a vibrant bouquet and enjoy the beauty of your flowers for longer!
